Huawei wants to help Europe achieve technological leadership while enabling it to achieve its Digital Sovereignty by safeguarding data protection and privacy rights and improving cybersecurity.

Huawei shares Europe’s vision of technology benefiting consumers and citizens. Since the company was founded 30 years ago, we have been working to bring digitalization and connectivity to all. Now, together, we are on the cusp of a 4th industrial revolution driven by 5G technology, Artificial Intelligence and technological innovation, the like of which we have never known. The possibilities are endless - and the advantages for consumers and citizens equally so.

Huawei is well placed to contribute to this revolution and to making Europe “fit for the Digital Age”. Europe can become one of the world leaders in the development of the digital economy and Huawei wants to help Europe get there, whilst also enabling it to achieve its Digital Sovereignty by safeguarding data protection and privacy rights and improving cybersecurity.

5G is Green

5G technology, when applied everywhere, will bring great benefits to society, not least because 5G is Green. Not only is it much more energy efficient than 4G (5G uses just 10% of the electricity 4G uses to transmit the same amount of data), but the new technologies emerging with 5G’s introduction will help Europe and the rest of the world meet their environmental targets as established by the Paris Agreement. Connected vehicles, smart energy grids, and agricultural activities using new rural networks, are just a few technologies that will come to define the 5G era. They will reduce CO2 emissions, improve energy efficiency, save water, optimize land use, and much, much more in a greener and smarter Europe.

Our first 5G Assembly in Brussels on 20 November will focus on the great potential 5G offers all areas of society in tackling its biggest challenges, from climate change to deforestation and poverty. It will also explore the importance for all parties of coming together to play a part in delivering the potential of 5G for Europe and, crucially, how policymakers and industry can work jointly to deliver a strategy which ensures Europe is a true 5G leader and not just a 5G follower.

We are at a crossroads. I hope you will join us in choosing the road to a smarter future!
